Police in California recently arrested the man they believe was responsible for a hit-and-run accident that left two people injured. The accused is facing numerous charges for the incident, including DUI. The accident supposedly occurred while the suspect was fleeing from officers at a high rate of speed.
According to local news, a 30-year-old male allegedly led police on a three-mile pursuit in the Vista area the evening of Jan. 27. A California Highway Patrol officer claims that the vehicle the accused was driving was reported as stolen, leading to the chase. The accused supposedly ran a stop sign during this event, hitting a sedan carrying a mother and child -- both of whom required transportation to a hospital for treatment. After the accident, authorities claim that the accused tried to flee the scene on foot, but he was apprehended with the use of a Taser.
In a video that accompanied the news report, it was stated that the accused was transported to the Vista Detention Center shortly after his arrest. He is facing a slew of charges, including DUI, grand theft auto and resisting arrest. At this time, it is unknown if any court dates have been scheduled regarding this individual's case.
The charges against the accused can carry significant penalties in the state of California -- if he is convicted. As such, he deserves the best criminal defense possible. While it may not be easy to fight the DUI and other charges filed in this case, the accused -- alongside legal counsel -- can question any evidence brought forward against him and then proceed to pursue a course of action that will best benefit his specific situation.
