A young California man was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement in a fatal car crash that occurred earlier in 2015. He has been ordered to stand trial for the incident. The charges against him include DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
The 22-year-old male is potentially facing upwards of 16 years behind bars if he is convicted of causing a crash that claimed the lives of two people. The incident reportedly occurred in May on Interstate 15. The accused supposedly entered the freeway heading in the wrong direction and struck the victims' vehicle head-on. Three other people suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash.
It was not reported if the accused was injured in the wreck. It is also unknown as to whether he is being held by authorities or if he has been released on bail. His trial is set for April 2016.
It will be up to the prosecution to provide a high degree of proof of DUI and involvement in order for this young man to be found guilty of what stands accused. As always, there is more than one side to a story. The accused has claimed that he was pulled off to the side of the freeway when the accident occurred, and was supposedly calling Uber when he was struck by the other vehicle. He has every right and ability to defend his position in a California criminal court with the assistance of legal counsel. A criminal defense attorney will be able to carefully review and question any evidence in the case and help the accused reach an outcome that best suits his situation -- whether that is a case dismissal, charge reduction or achieving alternative sentencing.
