It is not uncommon for police to conduct patrols for the specific purpose of targeting those drivers who are allegedly impaired. A recent patrol in southern California resulted in several people being arrested. Each is now facing charges for DUI.
A total of eight people were arrested in a recent weekend patrol which was intended to remove impaired drivers from the streets. With the combined efforts of a few different police agencies, and with funds provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, officers were camped out around various places, including San Diego and Del Mar. According to reports, authorities made a total of 47 stops and eight arrests.
Of those arrested, seven are facing charges for drunk driving. Police believe the eighth individual may have had drugs in his or her system. It is unknown if these individuals are still in police custody or if they have been released. Whether court dates have already been arranged for each of the accused is unknown.
DUI charges, whether alcohol or drug-related, will not be easily dismissed in court. This does not, however, mean that those recently arrested have few legal options. Every case will have its own unique set of challenges, and different defense strategies may need to be utilized in order to achieve the best possible outcome for each individual. An experienced criminal defense attorney will be able to help an accused individual make informed decisions regarding the legal actions that would best fit his or her case, whether that is fighting the accusations or seeking alternative sentencing.
