California drug crime: 2 booked for possession and trafficking

Illegal drug activity is both a state and federal concern. To help reduce the presence of these drugs in California, law enforcement officials are doing all they can to apprehend those believed responsible for making them readily available to the public. As this issue is one that is not taken lightly, an individual who is accused of any involvement in a drug crime could face some serious penalties.

With the passing of Proposition 47, the penalties associated with minor drug crimes have been decreased. However, there are still plenty of drug-related activities that can result in imprisonment and hefty fines should a conviction be handed down. These are the types of punishments two California residents are facing if prosecutors succeed in proving their cases against these individuals.

Recently, two men in Northern California were arrested following an investigation into drug trafficking in the area. These individuals, both in their 30s, are accused of possessing and distributing heroin. An investigative team claims to have retrieved approximately a half pound of heroin and almost $200,000 in cash after searching three separate properties.

Anyone accused of a drug crime in California or elsewhere, such as these individuals, is entitled to a defense on his or her behalf. This includes the right to retain experienced legal counsel who will investigate and question any evidence offered against the accused individual. There is no doubt about it, fighting drug charges -- such as possession and trafficking -- is not an easy task. However, there are different legal options that can help resolve the matter in a way that achieves the best possible outcome.
