California woman arrested on a felony DUI charge

A young woman is facing criminal charges following a car accident in California. The accident, which occurred at the end of March, is responsible for injuring two children -- ages 11 and 6. As police suspect the driver was drunk at the time of the crash, a felony DUI charge has been filed against this individual.

A 29-year-old woman was reportedly heading southbound on a highway -- a few hours north of San Diego -- when she supposedly failed to control her vehicle and crashed into an embankment. Two children were in the vehicle, both of whom suffered injuries in the crash. The driver and both children were transported to a medical facility for treatment. The nature of the driver's relationship to the children was not reported.

Police do believe alcohol was a contributing factor in this wreck, though it is unknown what tests were administered to come to this conclusion. As passengers in the car were injured, the accused has been charged with felony DUI. It is unknown if this individual is still hospitalized, is being held by authorities or has been released pending further proceedings. A court date for this matter has not been reported to the public.

The charge of a felony DUI is certainly something that will not be taken lightly in a California criminal court. Further investigation into this incident may produce information that could prove beneficial to the accused in her court proceedings. An experienced criminal defense team may be able to help by reviewing and questioning any evidence offered against this individual. While fighting this type of charge can be difficult, it's not impossible. Defense counsel will focus on preserving the rights of the accused woman while fighting for her best interests at every stage in the criminal court process.
