California man arrested for DUI following serious crash

Car accidents are a common occurrence on California roads. While the reasons for these accidents may vary, one thing is common in all of them -- fault must be determined. This is particularly true for accidents that result in injuries or fatalities. Recently, a man was arrested for DUI following an accident that injured four individuals.

A 55-year-old man was taken into custody after an accident on Interstate 15 at the end of January. According to police, the accident happened late at night over the last weekend of the month in Fallbrook. The accused supposedly rear-ended an SUV containing four occupants -- two adults and two children. Police do believe the accused was impaired at the time of the crash; however, it is unclear how they came to this assumption.

The force of the impact caused the two children to be ejected from the vehicle. Both children, a 2 year old and a 3 year old, were flown to a medical facility with unspecified injuries reported as serious. It is unknown whether their parents suffered any injuries in the incident.

The driver believed to be responsible for this crash will likely face a number of charges for this incident in addition to a DUI charge. As people were injured in this collision, the charges filed can have severe consequences -- if a conviction is achieved in a California criminal court. The potential penalties include prison time, fines and court-ordered rehabilitation -- among many others. As in all criminal cases, the accused has the right to question any evidence presented against him. Questioning every aspect of an investigation, including DUI test results, may lead to information that can help an accused individual fight the charges he or she is facing.
