California man facing felon in possession charge

California residents with a criminal record face a number of challenges. Once convicted of a crime, it can seem hard to move beyond the conviction and build a new life. This seems particularly true for those associated with gangs. Recently, a young man with felony convictions on his record was arrested and is facing a felon in possession of a weapon charge.

A 28-year-old man, who reportedly has a criminal record and who is allegedly tied to an area gang, was recently arrested after a probation search was performed at his home. The search of his home took place as part of a gang suppression operation following an incident that occurred a short while ago. During the search, police claim to have found a gun and gang symbol.

Those with felony convictions in California are prohibited from owning firearms. As such, this man is charged with the possession of the weapon and violation of his probation -- among other charges. It is unknown if any court dates have been scheduled for his case.

A felon in possession of a weapon charge can carry stiff penalties in California. Potential penalties -- if a conviction is ultimately secured -- include hefty fines and a lengthy prison term. While those with prior criminal convictions may feel there is little hope in fighting such charges, a number of defense strategies are actually available. With the help of an experienced criminal defense team, this individual can make informed decisions regarding the best course of action to pursue for his specific situation that will suit his best interests overall.
