California woman arrested on suspicion of DUI

A serious car accident in California left one person dead, three people injured and the person believed responsible arrested. The driver deemed liable for this crash was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Because a person died and others were injured, the charges filed in this case are felony charges which could result in serious penalties under state laws -- if prosecutors are able to secure a conviction.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 41-year-old woman supposedly lost control of her vehicle, causing her to cross into on-coming traffic. She reportedly struck another vehicle head-on, resulting in injuries to herself, a passenger and the other driver. Another passenger in the back seat of her car was killed in the wreck.

Even though this woman was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of felony DUI, it is unknown if chemical testing indicated impairment. At this time, it is also unknown if this individual remains in the hospital, is in custody or if she has been released on bail. Future court dates regarding this matter were not reported.

While DUI is considered a serious offense in California, those accused of felony DUI could face harsher penalties. If this individual is convicted, the potential penalties include prison time and fines -- among others. There is a lot on the line, and the accused would likely benefit from a well-planned criminal defense on her behalf. This could include debating the accuracy of any chemical tests performed. While fighting these charges may feel like an impossible feat, taking time to fully investigate the case and question any available evidence can help in achieving the best possible outcome.
