California gang cases affect juveniles and adults

It is a well-known fact that gangs are prevalent in certain areas of California. These groups do provide a sense of family for those in-need of one, but unfortunately, many are associated with violent behaviors and gang wars. Criminal gang cases affect both juveniles and adults, but how these cases are handled typically depends on the age of the offender and the severity of the crime charged.

Recently, a gang related shooting is said to have occurred in Corona between two rival gangs. Two, possibly three, individuals were injured in this incident. One individual was transported to a local hospital, where life-saving efforts were being performed. The current condition of this individual is unknown. The other two injured individuals reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the event is currently unknown. According to local law enforcement, one group met at their rally point earlier in the day, and the other group had a scheduled meeting later that night, though it is unclear if those meetings have any relevance to this situation. Currently, no one supposedly involved in the incident has been arrested. It is unknown if any charges are pending in this case.

Violent behavior that is often associated with gang cases, such as the events described above, can result in criminal charges that have potentially severe consequences under California laws. Juveniles accused of these crimes may face juvenile detention and rehabilitation or, depending on the severity of the crime, could be tried as an adult. Consequences for adults could include jail and/or prison time, among many others. While it is understandable for the state to take these crime seriously, the accused in these cases do have rights guaranteed to them as they work through juvenile or criminal court proceedings. Several different legal strategies may be available to help dismiss or reduce the charges, or help the accused negotiate a plea agreement -- if it is determined to be in their best interest.
