California woman facing DUI charges after fatal accident

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 7-year-old boy was recently killed in a crash that occurred on the Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County. This was a single-vehicle crash that is believed to be the result of an impaired driver. The driver, who is also the mother of the deceased child, has been arrested and faces a DUI charge for the incident.

The accident occurred when the driver of a mid-size passenger car, a 34-year-old woman, supposedly left the roadway and collided with a tree. At this time, it is unknown what caused her to veer off the highway. One child was killed. Several other individuals, including an adult passenger and two other children, were injured in the crash. All three were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The highway patrol officer on-scene reported that the driver of the vehicle exhibited signs of impairment, though details of that claim were not reported. The woman was arrested on DUI-related charges. Police have indicated that other charges are still pending in this case.

The accused in this situation has suffered an enormous loss by losing her child. On top of that, a DUI resulting-in-death charge can carry stiff penalties under California laws. Consequences include fines, restitution payments, jail and/or prison time and loss of driving privileges. Having already suffered so much and with so much more on the line, the accused would likely benefit from a well-planned criminal defense that would fight for a verdict that keeps her best interests at heart.
