California man facing multiple murder charges across nation

There are a lot of people in the world who can’t imagine what it’s like to be accused of a serious crime. There are fewer still who can imagine being accused of multiple crimes across several states. As many of our readers here in San Diego know, multiple charges can put a lot of pressure and stress on a person because failing to have the right defense can lead to serious legal consequences. This can perhaps be exemplified by the case of a California man who is currently facing multiple murder charges in at least three states at this very moment.

The 51-year-old man, who has lived off and on in Central California, was arrested and sent to Alabama where he is accused of being involved in a 2013 murder. Although he denies any involvement in this particular killing, an investigator in that state claims that the man admitted to carrying out up to 40 killings as an alleged contract killer. But whether this confession is true or not could have a significant impact on the charges against him here in California.

Currently, prosecutors here in California believe that they have connected the man to nine murders across Kern, Santa Barbara and Tulare counties between 1980 and 2011. Reports indicate that he is facing nine counts of murder, four of which claim that he committed the crimes for financial gain. It’s because of the multiple charges and the seriousness of the crimes that a conviction could mean the death penalty for the man. But it’s not just here and in Alabama that the man is accused of such a heinous crime.

Reports indicate that he is also wanted in Florida on suspicion of two killings in 2006. But because of differing state laws, it’s difficult to say whether these accusations will align or come into conflict with the charges he is facing here and in Alabama. Either way, our readers may recognize this as a very serious situation, one in which legal counsel may be incredibly beneficial.
