Woman facing drug sales allegations at unlicensed daycare

A 49-year-old Long Beach woman has been arrested after allegedly stashing drugs at her unlicensed child-care facility. The woman is accused of possessing narcotics with the intent to sell, according to official reports. Investigators allege that a variety of drugs were unearthed at the woman's home when a search warrant was served in January.

Officers said they had received information indicating that drugs were being sold out of the woman's house. After starting an investigation, they realized that the woman might have been running an unlicensed daycare business out of her home. The officers were able to obtain a search warrant for the woman's home and inspected the property in January. There, they allege that they found marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and other drugs.

Further, the officers believe that some of the children enrolled in the daycare operation were present when alleged drug deals were conducted. The investigation may yield additional information about the identity of the woman's supposed customers, but it does not appear that the children's parents were engaged in the transactions. The fact that this woman was apprehended may have legal implications for other people.

The woman was not at the residence when it was searched, and she was able to avoid arrest for several weeks until she was apprehended on Jan. 31. Officers claim they found the woman moving toys, and they hypothesize that she was planning to care for children at another location. She is currently in custody on a $110,000 bail. The criminal investigation continues in this case.

Defendants like this woman may end up facing multiple types of drug charges. Different drug charges, such as those for selling prescription drugs, may carry different potential penalties. A California attorney may be able to help defendants understand the exact nature of the charges that have been filed against them. This additional information may help defendants make more informed decisions about their criminal drug case.
