Man charged with assault with a deadly weapon for 5 attacks

A California man is facing serious charges after allegedly assaulting five women in Orange County. The defendant, age 32, is accused of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted rape and other allegations in connection with the incidents. Authorities say the assaults occurred within a period of just six hours on Jan. 16.

Authorities say the man is accused of assaulting two women at a motel in Anaheim at about 8 p.m. that evening. The women suffered lacerations that were not life-threatening, and they were treated at a local hospital. Three other assaults reportedly occurred in Garden Grove on the same day. An assault happened at about 5:30 p.m., when a woman was beaten and dragged by a man who ran from the scene. Another incident at about 7:20 p.m. involved a woman who was stabbed three times inside her home by a man armed with a knife. The final reported incident occurred at about 10 p.m. and also involved a woman who was struck by a man.

The assaults all occurred within a two-mile area during the evening hours on Jan. 16. The defendant was arrested on Jan. 18 in connection with the attacks. An investigation is still ongoing in the matter, as law enforcement officers are currently preparing the case.

Criminal defendants in California deserve to be treated with fairness and respect, no matter the charges pending against them. This individual is accused of assault and weapons charges, but that does not mean that he is automatically considered guilty. An unbiased criminal proceeding is warranted for every criminal defendant in the state of California. A criminal defense attorney may be able to help protect defendants' rights.
